Faith Ringgold visited the community on February 20 with stops at the Snite Museum for a public lecture and the Center for Arts and Culture to interact with the kids in the after-school program. Ringgold is a painter, writer, speaker, mixed media sculptor and performance artist. She is especially well known for her painted story quilts, which blur the line between "high art" and "craft" by combining painting, quilted fabric, and storytelling. She is professor emeritus at the University of California, San Diego where she taught art from 1987 until 2002. Ringgold is the recipient of more than 75 awards including 22 Honorary Doctor of Fine Arts Degrees.
