Eco Fest Student Art Contest Exhibit

Downtown South Bend, Inc. invites the Michiana community to a reception showcasing over 200 Eco Fest Student Art Competition entries by area third thru eighth grade students.  The reception will take place on Friday, May 6, 2011 at Notre Dame Downtown (217 S. Michigan Street, South Bend, IN) from 5:00-7:00 PM.

Area students in third through eighth grade were invited to submit artwork based on the theme “Fun on the River”.  All entries will be on exhibit at a reception during Downtown South Bend's First Fridays on May 6 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. in the Downtown South Bend, Inc. lobby located at 217 S. Michigan Street.  The exhibit is free and open to the public and will remain on display until June 17.

The 2011 Eco Fest student art contest winner is sixth grader Myree Finlay from Dickinson Intermediate Fine Arts Academy. Not only will her artwork be used for the 2011 Eco Fest promotional poster, but she also received a certificate for an eight-week art class at South Bend Museum of Art along with an ipod shuffle. 

Runners-up are Lauren Salela, St. Pius X; Rachel Was, Christ the King; Sara York, Christ the King; Laura Chuppe, Kennedy Primary Academy; Sydney Lewandowski, Christ the King; Samir Lenoir, Dickinson Intermediate Fine Arts Academy; Emily Cole, Christ the King; Satin Garman, Elsie Rogers; Eimhear Canavan-Martin, Christ the King; Grace Joines, Christ the King.

Eco Fest will be held on Saturday, June 18 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in Howard Park along the St. Joseph River. Eco Fest is presented by Downtown South Bend, Inc. (DTSB) and showcases eco-friendly initiatives, programs, and activities helping to protect and preserve our natural environment and health.  Festivities feature family-oriented fun for all ages.  All exhibits are free and open to the public.
