The University of Notre Dame will host its sixth annual Notre Dame Energy Week Sept. 23-27 (Sunday-Saturday) at various campus locations.
Co-sponsored by the Center for Sustainable Energy at Notre Dame Student Advisory Board (cSEND SAB) and GreeND, Energy Week aims to educate the Notre Dame community about energy research and issues in a fun and interactive way, and will include energy awareness events both on and off campus, including academic talks, networking events and tours.
Energy Week begins Sept. 23 with a display on South Quad, where students can visit energy- and sustainability-related booths from national companies and community organizations to learn how the companies reduce their energy footprints and how individuals can lower theirs.
Academic discussions throughout the week will include “Preparing for a Career in Sustainable Energy,” led by Mike Brownell of Dayaway Careers, at 8 a.m. Sept. 25 (Tuesday) in the Oak Room at the South Dining Hall, and “Who is directing the future of energy?” led by a faculty panel at 7 p.m. Sept. 27 (Thursday) in the Hesburgh Library Auditorium.
Community opportunities will include a talk and networking event with Maggie Koerth-Baker, author of “Before the Lights Go Out: Conquering the Energy Crisis Before It Conquers Us,” on Sept. 25 at 6 p.m. at Legends Night Club. The annual Career Dinner at Club Naimoli will allow students to view recruitment videos from energy companies and speak with representatives. This event is sold out.
New to this year’s Energy Week is Community Energy Day on Sept. 29, an event in cooperation with the South Bend Municipal Energy Office and the IUSB Center for a Sustainable Future. This event, which begins at 9 a.m., will include a series of short tours around South Bend to introduce the community to organizations and facilities aimed at energy efficiency and sustainability. The South Bend Municipal Energy Office also is hosting a concurrent South Bend Energy Week that focuses on energy savings for homeowners and businesses.
